Teien Art Museum Part One: Outside

I recently dropped by one of my favourite places in Tokyo to faff away a few hours, the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum. I generally find myself there a lot as the museum, a converted royal residence built in the 1930's, is a fascinating art deco building which holds even more fascinating art exhibitions. The surrounding gardens are also a beautiful respite from the pace of Tokyo, just outside the walls.

I've called this part one as I'm going to include a part two and three, and ta for your interest. I'll post up some photos of the wonderfully bourgeoisie interior for part two, and part three will be all about the current exhibition, Typographic Posters of the 20th Century, in which I died and went to designer heaven.

More soon.

Tunes for You

While I'm still on the musical train of thought; I thought you needed a new mix!

Today I'm giving props to my dear friend Levins, who has put together this epic mix to celebrate his new Sydney club night, Club AL. It's basically a bunch of wicked songs Levins has carefully picked out of his bag for our listening pleasure. He also recommends it as "the perfect soundtrack for pie baking, bath taking, piƱata making or orgasm faking." You down?

You can download the mix and grab the track list from his blog, Yo Levins.

Enjoy it like I did....and still am.

DJ Codomo

I discovered DJ Codomo (Tetsuaki Shigeoka) whilst trying to find a gig to go to this weekend, and instantly fell in love with his joyful, synthy beeps and beats. And his music videos are really just wonderful. Thank you, internet.

Did I mention his fantastic old-school website? I'm seeing more of these "drag the dialogue boxes around", bitmap-style sites lately, and I just love them. Perhaps that's because I was more or less weaned on computing systems that looked like this.

For the interest of Tokyo inhabitants, he's playing on Friday at Three in my little neighbourhood, Shimokitazawa.

How to be a Tourist in Your Hometown

A few snaps from my recent trip back to Sydney. It's fun to wander around your old stamping grounds with a refreshed eye and a hand full of 35mm. The space, warmth, greenery and general lack of up-keep of everything was a welcome contrast to Tokyo. At least for two weeks.

Hope you're enjoying summer down in that other hemisphere.
